Members of the Brookhaven-Comsewogue Union School District community shaved their heads in solidarity with a student at Terryville Road Elementary School battling cancer.
Tenzin Tanaka, 8, was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia in June.
Money raised by the district will go toward the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which raises money for clinical trials, new medications and provides financial assistance for families.
Tanaka's mother says her family just moved to the area at the beginning of the school year.
"So, it makes me really proud to be in this community," said Colleen Tanaka. "It's exciting because we know a lot of people in this community so to see everybody kind of come together and help him fight is awesome. Just the support is incredible."
