Long Island students rallied for gun reform on Sunday, and they were joined by family members of people who lost their lives in the Parkland school shooting.

The event was held in Huntington Station. Linda Beigel Schulman, whose son was among the 17 killed in the Parkland shooting, spoke passionately about her family's loss.

"It took three seconds for a 19-year-old to shoot Scott six times from less than 5 feet away," she says. "Our lives will never be the same."

Beigel Schulman says gun reform needs to happen now.

"We are here at this rally to support reasonable gun control legislation. We need politicians who will do more than just offer their thoughts and prayers," she said.

But not everyone agrees on how to halt school shootings. Marilyn Cohen, a member of the Sportsman's Association for Firearms Education, says there are other ways to combat gun violence in schools.

"Get help for those who need mental health help, and increase security in the schools where you can. Hire retired police officers and security guards metal detectors and such," she says.

Some students who attended Sunday's rally say they plan to affect change by voting. Students Against Gun Violence Long Island provided voter registration to all who attended to encourage them to vote in November.
