PSEG Long Island is looking ahead to what the remnants of Hurricane Laura may bring on Saturday.

Storm-weary Long Islanders are prepping for another round of high winds and heavy rain. Mike Povey, of Lindenhurst, spent Friday battening down the hatches at home and securing his boat.

"My concern is I'm going to have to pump it out tomorrow or it's not going to be here," he says.

The main concern for residents in waterfront communities on the South Shore is flooding.

Town of Hempstead crews spent Friday prepping for the possibility of toppled trees and down wires.

Town officials say they've also cleared more than 5,000 storm drains to prepare for flooding.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin says, "Our crews are cleaning drains, getting our trucks ready. We're sharpening the blades on our buzz saws. We're going to have our cherry pickers out there. And we're going to have crews out there throughout the weekend in case of any significant damage."

With this weekend's storm coming on the heels of Tropical Storm Isaias, many residents say they're skeptical PSEG LI will be prepared.

The utility is under fire from its response to Isaias, in which nearly a half million customers lost power for days.
However, PSEG officials say the utility is ready with extra crews on hand.

PSEGLI President and CEO Dan Eichhorn says, "We feel we are prepared. We as a company have not tried to make excuses. We take ownership. We realize the experience was not what anyone expected."

PSEG also says its made capacity changes to its phone system to try to avoid the communications breakdown that happened during Tropical Storm Isaias.
