During a press conference Wednesday, Nassau officials praised the peaceful protests across the county on Tuesday.

A total of five protests happened Tuesday across the county, including in Valley Stream, Long Beach, Freeport and Merrick.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says there was successful mediation by police and cooler heads prevailed – no issues reported, no arrests and no property damage during the protests.

"I am overwhelmed with pride, our residents protested peacefully. I am proud of the police department. It's times like these you see why training and building bridges between community and police is so important and things we work on all the time," says Curran.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said any violence will not be tolerated. "My cops will not tolerate any acts of violence or criminal mischief," says Ryder.

Meanwhile, officials say the county is on track to enter phase two following the pandemic next Wednesday.
The move would allow office type jobs, hair cuts, real estate and certain types of film work. Nassau sees millions of dollars from a robust film industry.

The county also announced it is starting a pilot program that would supply PPE for small businesses.
As of Wednesday, 1.6% of those tested for COVID-19 tested positive – the lowest number the county has seen since the beginning. The county reported a decline in ICU admissions and ventilated patients and two more deaths.
