Local officials have called on the state to allow outdoor dining when the region takes its next step in reopening.
Dozens of officials, including Oyster Bay's town supervisor, joined restaurant owners Monday in Massapequa Park, to ask Gov. Andrew Cuomo to include open restaurant dining in Phase 2 of his reopening plans.
Long Island is currently on track to possibly hit phase 2 next week. Sea Cliff Mayor Ed Lieberman says dining is vital to the economy.
"We will also abide by the proper protocols to get this done, for our residents, for our merchants, restaurant owners, it's imperative," says Lieberman.
Currently - Long Island restaurants are restricted to takeout and delivery.
Cuomo has said the state is looking into allowing restaurants to provide outdoor seating, but a final decision has not yet been made.
