The Town of Southampton is now restricting its beach access after what town officials call a “hellish holiday weekend.”
Town officials say hundreds of day-trippers flocked to the beach from out of town and didn't follow social distancing guidelines.
As of now, only residents and legal renters are allowed to use town beaches until May 31, and the measure is likely to be extended.
Anyone entering the beach will now need proof of residency, like a state license, and must display a valid town parking sticker on their vehicle.
