The Long Island Rail Road is prepping for Phase One of reopening after months of the region being on "PAUSE."
Long Island is on pace to begin the first stage of reopening on Wednesday, which would mean more passengers on trains.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the LIRR will be undergoing new safety measures to keep commuters safe from COVID-19.
"They're going to be cleaning and disinfecting all trains and buses every day," Cuomo says. "First time ever. We never disinfected buses and trains before. We never thought we had to."
The LIRR will also be adding more train cars to help with social distancing.
Cuomo says riders are required to wear face coverings while using public transportation.
