Gov. Cuomo gives Nassau green light to begin elective surgeries

Nassau officials announced that they have been given the green light by the state to begin elective surgeries in the county.
On Monday, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran made her case to Gov. Andrew Cuomo that hospital executives and health care professionals were ready to take that step.
The move comes as officials announced that COVID-9 related hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and the percentage of those testing positive for the virus continues to trend down. As of Monday, a total of 5% of those being tested for the virus tested positive. A total of 10 new deaths were also reported.
In other news, Curran announced that in order to keep county residents safe and healthy, she is signing an order that the only county operated beach, Nickerson Beach, will be open to residents only at 50% capacity. In addition, the Town of Hempstead announced its beaches will be closed off to residents only.
Lastly, officials say the Belmont Stakes will take place on June 20 without an audience. The stakes will broadcast live on NBC and for the first time in the history of triple crown it will serve as the first leg.
