Major service changes are coming to the MTA and LIRR after a never-before-seen drop in ridership due to the pandemic.

The MTA says the coronavirus has caused a 71% drop in ridership on the LIRR.

Chairman Pat Foye says the MTA needs federal aid after the massive drop in revenue.

The agency has announced it is slashing service on the LIRR and to city subways.

"On March 27 the Long Island Rail Road will adopt a new schedule preserving 65% overall service. However, trains in the peak hour will continue to run," says Foye.

The MTA says the reduced service plan ensures that essential workers will still be able to get to their jobs.
