Students in Garden City received a lesson that has them reaching for the stars.
Students got to watch "Black in Space: Breaking the Color Barrier."
The film is about the first black astronauts, and looks into the Cold War's space race and how racial prejudice affected the space program.
News 12's Thema Ponton was one of the moderators who led the discussion.
Organizers hope the children will be inspired.
The special screening was a partnership for Black History Month between Altice USA, the parent company of News 12, the Smithsonian Channel and the Cradle of Aviation.
