Republican legislators in Suffolk Country introduced a package of proposals in honor of 8-year-old Thomas Valva.
The "Justice for Thomas Valva Initiative" calls for hiring at least eight Child Protective Services caseworkers, filling all senior and supervisory positions and hiring at least three trained mental health investigators at the Department of Social Services.
The proposal looks to ensure no child suffers a death like Valva. The 8-year-old died of hypothermia after allegedly being forced to sleep in a freezing garage.
His father and father's fiancee are charged with second-degree murder in the case.
