Some Long Islanders say since New York state's Green Light Law has gone into effect, being in the DMV has been a nightmare.
The law went into effect Monday, and residents in Port Jefferson say the line at the DMV was long and spilled out of the door. A neighboring business owner tells News 12 the line was worse Tuesday.
People at the Garden City DMV say the line wrapped around the building, and that those either getting plates or renewing their licenses spent hours there.
Several people tell News 12 the Garden City DMV even locked the doors at one point.
An informational session was held Wednesday night at Make the Road New York in Brentwood to help out those who will be applying for their driver's licenses for the first time.
Ana Flores with Make the Road New York says the organization is guiding people on how to get their license, how to fill out the forms, and what to expect at the DMV.
She says the new law is a great help to those who struggled with transportation before now.
News 12 reached out to the DMV for comment on whether the crowds are related to the Green Light Law, and about the locked doors.
The DMV recommends going online to make a reservation to cut down on your wait time at the offices.
