Police are once again asking the public for help finding whoever is responsible for the death of a Shelter Island priest who was found bound inside his home last year.
On March 19, 2018, 87-year-old retired priest Paul Wancura was found tied up and seriously injured inside his home on Oak Tree Lane. His home was burglarized.
Investigators say Wancura had been tied up for at least three days and had to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. He eventually succumbed to his injuries a month later.
According to police, jewelry was taken from the home, including a Lucien Piccard Seashark watch. They say the attacker might have known the priest and that this wasn't a random act of violence.
Wancura was a priest at an Episcopal church in Setauket and is buried there.
Suffolk police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
