Police: Driver left scene of crash that killed husband and wife
A husband and wife were killed in a Mastic Beach crash, and the driver of the other vehicle was arrested after police say he fled the scene.
The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Huguenot Drive and Forest Road West. Prosecutors say 50-year-old William Molnar and his 41-year-old wife, Jean, were heading east when their Subaru was T-boned by a Ford Explorer that ran through a stop sign.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police tell News 12 that 24-year-old Patrick Poillon, from Mastic Beach, ran from the scene on foot. They say he not only left the couple to die, but also abandoned his own front-seat passenger.
That 22-year-old man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.
Poillon is being charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
His bond was set at $5 million or $1 million cash bail.
The Molnars leave behind four children, a grandchild and a second grandchild who is on the way.
