News 12 meteorologists are tracking scattered storms that could bring damaging winds and downpours to parts of Long Island this evening.
Some storm cells began popping up across the tri-state region earlier this afternoon. The storms are packing the chance for gusty winds, downpours, small hail and lightning.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of the tri-state area, but Long Island is currently not included in the watch. News 12 meteorologists say the Island could still see these storms sweep through Nassau and Suffolk this evening.
Conditions were expected to dry out after sunset, with clear skies overnight.
