Three things to know:
Freezing rain and a wintry mix of showers moved through overnight, creating a slick and icy glaze on some spots in the Hudson Valley. Use caution when out and about this morning on the roadways but also walking out and about on the Metro platforms/stairwells and in general around your home. Most main roadways were treated with salt/sand but those less traveled roads and walkways may have not been treated. Winds will pick up later today as the temps rise.
Temperatures move up today and will continue to trend above the freezing point throughout the entire 10day forecast for daytime highs. Temperatures at night will dip below the freezing point, so any melting of snow during the day will refreeze overnight. The average low at this time of the year is 23 degrees, so this is normal for us to be below freezing. Extra salting & sanding operations may be needed through the week to avoid icy build up on surfaces.
The Presidents Day holiday weekend lies ahead of us and so is the potential for a winter storm. Thankfully, that trend has been to keep the system just to our south, but we are still keeping an eye on it. Sunday into Presidents Day is when a round of mixed wintry showers will be possible. Valentine's Day is on Saturday, and it will be a dry one with a lovely chill in the air.
