Residents of Woolsey Avenue in Glen Cove have seen this scenario before: heavy rain leading to flooded streets, backyards and basements.
Tuesday night was no different, as stormwater from neighboring streets rushed onto their block, overwhelming the eight storm drains. Neighbors shared with News 12 photos of people using plywood and insulation to try and divert some of the water during the height of the storm.
Over half a dozen houses on the block experienced some type of flooding, whether it was their front or back yards, or water in their basement. Many of them tell News 12 it is not the first time it’s happened.
They tell News 12 they’ve reached out to City Hall and Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck about the repeated flooding every time there’s heavy rain, but no solution has been provided. The mayor visited the street Wednesday to see the damage for herself, and says crews were out clearing drains before the storm and will do so again before rain expected later this week.
