Bare shelves at the grocery story were an all-too-common sight at the height of the pandemic, and once again many shoppers are searching for some of their go-to items.
Kyle Dyer, of Rocky Point, says he has noticed some big changes at his neighborhood supermarket. Empty shelves are bringing back memories of the early days of COVID-19 when panic buying led to major product shortages.
Dyer says this time he's driving to numerous stores in search of cat litter. Dyer says driving to multiple stores just to find cat litter is strange.
Retail analyst Marshal Cohen says a supply chain shortage is the cause of all the problems. He says there simply aren't enough workers to move items across the country.
"We have more goods that we need that are sitting either assembled or ready for assembly sitting on these cargo ships," says Cohen. "And there's just not enough truckers to transport them out, not enough rail cars and laborers to get them onto the rail cars."
Experts say when supply is low, and demand is high there are more shortages.
That's causing some shoppers to buy certain items in bulk.
A spokesperson for Stop & Shop says they're in close contact with suppliers to keep high demand products on the shelves.
Some experts say eventually it may be hard to find specific brands.
