The Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball team, for the first time in school history, will play in the NCAA Tournament this year.
It was announced Sunday that 13th-seeded Stony Brook will play fourth-seeded Kentucky in the opening round.
Kentucky, the heavy favorite, has appeared in the big dance 55 times.
News 12 was there as the Seawolves squad learned they'll be heading to Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday. Stony Brook won its conference tournament Saturday to earn its spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Staff members at Stony Brook's gift shop say excitement is high and merchandise is flying off the shelves despite the fact that the school is currently observing spring break.
The Spirit of Stony Brook Marching Band will also travel to Des Moines for the game.
