Stony Brook University has announced several steps it has taken to help its workers and the community during the fight against COVID-19.
The hospital says it is now distributing clean scrubs daily to staff at the hospital during the fight against COVID-19.
Each day, health care providers and hospital staff are picking special teal scrubs to wear for their shift and drop them off after, eliminating the potential for contamination of clothing while working in the clinical setting.
Meanwhile, in response to the growing number of callers, Stony Brook Medicine has extended its operating hours for its coronavirus hotline.
The line is now open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to midnight. Registered nurses are available to evaluate and direct callers to the appropriate health care setting for assistance, as needed. You can reach the hotline at (631) 638-1320.
In addition, Stony Brook Medicine has also started a coronavirus pregnancy hotline.
Expectant parents who may have questions about how the coronavirus crisis may affect pregnancies can call (631) 444-8940.
Delivery rooms at Stony Brook University Hospital are still fully operational, but visitation policies have changed due to the pandemic.
Stony Brook has also set up a website to centralize and coordinate volunteer efforts. The site contains a volunteer request form for anyone needing help, as well as a volunteer application form for those looking to pay it forward.
Lastly, a special tribute for Stony Brook University health care heroes. Staff at Stony Brook University Hospital received a hero's welcome over the weekend. Colorful chalk art and positive sayings lined the sidewalks leading up the hospital's main entrance. The project was a group effort by the Stony Brook’s Child Life Specialists and the Art Therapy interns.
