This week's blizzard turned a Stony Brook family's cruise into a nightmare.
Karoline Ross says her family's cruise started off as a relaxing and fun week in the Bahamas celebrating her father-in-law's 80th birthday and her daughter's engagement.
The trip quickly turned into a nightmare when they headed back to New York in bad weather on Tuesday.
Footage shows water pouring into the boat through stairwells, leaking through the ceiling, hallways and an elevator shaft.
A spokesperson from Norwegian Cruise Line tells News 12 that the Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship encountered unexpected conditions due to winter storm Grayson.
“The ship's captain adjusted the ship's speed and itinerary accordingly to maintain the safest possible route, delaying the ship's arrival,” said the cruise line in a statement. “We sincerely apologize to our guests for the stronger than expected weather conditions and any resulting discomfort or inconvenience they may have experienced."
The Ross family tells News 12 that after complaining to Norwegian about the experience they were offered 500 credits per passenger. They say they are going to continue to fight for full compensation.
