The Stony Brook University men's basketball team fell to the University of Kentucky 85-57 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.
At halftime, the Seawolves trailed the No. 4 seed Wildcats 33-19. Stony Brook, the No. 13 seed, shot just 7 for 38 from the floor -- below 20 percent.
The Seawolves arrived in Iowa on Tuesday and held their first practice Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Arena. Members of the Stony Brook band were in house, cheering on the players as they practiced.
Plenty of Stony Brook faithful made the trip to Iowa, and senior forward Jameel Warney made sure Kentucky knew early that he came to play.
"We have the most confidence in the world with us 14 on the team, so it really doesn't matter if people are giving us a shot, we know what we can do," Warney said prior to Thursday's match-up.
For the first time in program history, Stony Brook reached the NCAA Tournament by defeating Vermont in the America East Tournament championship on Saturday.
