The Stony Brook University and Hofstra University men's basketball teams' season openers have been canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests.
Hofstra's game was canceled due to a positive coronavirus test involving a player on Monmouth University's team. The two schools were scheduled to play Wednesday evening.
Stony Brook's game was canceled after a positive test that came from someone who had been scheduled to work the game, but who is not directly affiliated with either team. The Seawolves were scheduled to face Bryant today.
Stony Brook will now look to start its season Saturday at home against Fairfield.
Hofstra is now slated to start their season on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Rutgers.
Other college basketball games went on as planned Wednesday and more are scheduled throughout the weekend.
Some schools have pulled out of non-conference games due to positive coronavirus tests, including Baylor, Duke, Tennessee and Oregon.
