Steve Snair, Robert Creighton seeking to dethrone longtime Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio

The longest tenured town supervisor in Long Island history is vying for another term, just as his challengers and constituents say it's time for a change.

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio has held his post for more than 35 years. The Republican now faces competition from lawyer Steve Snair, who says Vecchio has not done enough to promote and protect small businesses.

Snair, running on the Democratic, Working Families and Independence lines, insists the town needs a new direction to help residents plan for their future.

A third candidate is also involved in the mix. Robert Creighton is a former Suffolk County police commissioner and a current Smithtown councilman. He lost to Vecchio in the Republican primary earlier this year, and says he is upset with the town's lack of progress.
