A Deer Park business' products are out of this world - on the Mars rover and on satellites circling Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto and Earth.
Sector Microwave builds switches that activate the backup systems of larger devices.
Vic Nelson founded the company in 1974. He had just been fired and decided to use his knack for science and engineering to start his own business. The result is a company with about 50 loyal employees.
Besides having parts in outer space, the company also has plenty of parts here on Earth, including on some U.S. Navy ships as part of their anti-missile systems.
Nelson, 91, still puts in at least 40 hours a week.
"It's a real blessing to be able to create things, let them sail into space," says Nelson. "We're doing well, we're making money and we're selling a great product. You can't ask for much more than that."
