Federal authorities say a joint sting with local law enforcement netted hundreds of fugitives across the state, including 55 from Long Island.
Nearly 700 fugitives wanted for sex offenses and murders were taken into custody during the weeklong roundup called ?Operation Falcon.?
Among the murder suspects arrested was 19-year-old Lavelle Todd, who was wanted for shooting three teenagers outside a Central Islip recreation center in May. Todd was caught in North Carolina.
Also busted was 46-year-old John Conigliaro, wanted in Pennsylvania for the repeated rape of a 4-year-old girl. He was picked up in West Babylon, where he works.
?These cases highlight the significance of what our deputies do every day - removing the worst of the worst from the streets,? Eugene Corcoran, of the U.S. Marshals Service says.
Last year, Operation Falcon netted more than 10,000 fugitives nationwide. Marshals won't know the total number nationally for this year until next week.
