State police are warning residents about a phone scam targeting Long Islanders.

Investigators say residents are receiving calls from someone falsely identifying himself as a state police officer and asking for personal information.

News 12 is told the caller ID even displays a state police station phone number.

State police say they'll never ask for personal information over the phone.
