State Police: Trooper who helped disabled motorist dies 3 years after LIE crash

On Dec. 18, 2017, Trooper Gallagher was struck on the overpass from the westbound Long Island Expressway to southbound Sagtikos Parkway. According to the governor’s office, Gallagher died from injuries sustained in the crash.

New York State Trooper Joseph Gallagher, who was struck by a vehicle in 2017 while helping a disabled motorist, died Friday.
According to state police, Trooper Gallagher was member of the force since 2014, and was previously assigned to Troop F and Troop T. He was last assigned in Brentwood.
On Dec. 18, 2017, Trooper Gallagher was struck on the overpass from the westbound Long Island Expressway to southbound Sagtikos Parkway. According to the governor’s office, Gallagher died from injuries sustained in the crash.
He is survived by his wife, two children, parents, sister and brothers.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo order flags be flown at half-staff to honor his memory.
