State police: Impaired driver struck troopers’ vehicles during traffic stop on Southern State

State police say the troopers were sitting in their patrol cars right after they had pulled over another suspected drunk driver.

Two state troopers were injured after they were hit by an alleged drunk driver.

State police say the troopers were sitting in their patrol cars right after they had pulled over another suspected drunk driver.

They say that's when 73-year-old Jaikaran Ramrookum slammed into the cars.

It happened just after midnight on the Southern State Parkway near exits 39 and 40S near the Robert Moses Causeway.

Ramrookum was arrested and charged with DWI.

The first driver stopped by police stopped, 32-year-old Jared Robinson, was also arrested for DWI. Police say he hit a construction light in a work zone.
