State police say three men were arrested after they were pulled over in Nassau County and found to have loaded weapons and marijuana.
A trooper stopped an unregistered vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike near the Meadowbrook Parkway at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday. The trooper detected an odor of marijuana and searched the vehicle and its three occupants, according to state police.
Police say the trooper recovered a loaded 9MM semi-automatic handgun, an automatic assault rifle with ammunition, and approximately 2 grams of marijuana.
The driver of the car was identified as Tashawn Johnson, 18, of Hempstead. The passengers were identified as Sabir Council, 19, and Shawnun Williams, 21, also of Hempstead.
All three were charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Johnson was additionally charged with marijuana possesion, driving while ability impaired by drugs and several traffic violations, according to police.
