Recalled toys tainted with lead are still being sold in stores throughout Long Island and the state, state consumer investigators said Monday. On the heels of those findings, Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who said the federal government has failed to adequately inform local retailers about the recalls, announced plans to introduce legislation that would require manufacturers to do their own lead testing and label every toy. Officials say parents need to be extra careful when buying toys from discount or dollar stores. That's where state investigators say they found several dangerous toys still being sold. "We are trying to say to folks, be careful, ask, be informed, ask retailers for a list of recalled toys," said Spitzer.
