A new audit has found the Roosevelt School District is still misusing funds four years after the state took control to curb overspending.
The audit reports 50 different accounts overspent more than $2.4 million and recommended about 60 changes. Administrators say about 30 of them have already been made. However, many parents say they wonder how such problems could occur under the watch of the state-appointed school board.
Teachers? union president Kevin O?Connor says administrators spend, and the school board just goes along with it. According to the report, this includes an eight-day cruise to Antarctica and an educational conference in Argentina the superintendent was supposed to take. Both trips have been canceled, but the district still spent more than $6,000 on them.
