A man admitted to pretending to be his dead father, a former Nassau County clerk employee, to steal thousands in retirement benefits.
The state comptroller says Timothy Gritman, 55, moved with his father to Wyoming in 2017. In 2019, Gritman allegedly told a family member that his father had died, although a body was never found.
The comptroller says Gritman hid his father's death for over four years to collect over $200,000 in pension and Social Security payments.
Gritman will be sentenced May 31 after pleading guilty to wire and Social Security fraud.
