More than 200 firefighters showed up for the arraignment of three men accused of beating a city firefighter from Mastic Beach. Police say Richard Berkhout, 46, and his wife were walking home from a 9/11 memorial service last week when they were confronted by three men in a vehicle. Prosecutors say as the car sped by, Berkhout told the men to slow down. They say that?s when Christopher Robinson, 25, and his brothers, Darrell and Darian Taylor, got out of the car and beat Berkhout. Berkhout remains hospitalized with a fractured skull.The three defendants, who were charged with assault, are being held on $1 million bail each. They all face a maximum of 25 years when sentenced. The District Attorney?s office says there will be no plea bargaining in the case.
