Himani Sethi is the owner and it's so good to have you here. Thank you. So, like I said, I liked working with you with my right shoulder that was in pain. You know what you're doing? What techniques do you use to diagnose and treat your patients? Mainly the palpation and uh you know, with the knowledge of anatomy and physiology and kinesiology. Basically how the muscles move, where they originate from where they insert, where the tendon ends, where the muscle belly starts, where it turns into a ligament where what is the function of each and every part of it is. If your fingers can make out where it is and where the limitation is, we can get it um removed so that it can move freely. That is for the muscles and joints. There are many other parts where physical therapy can help you believe it or not. TMJ. Not many people know that physical therapy can help in there. Oncology, which is cancer I would uh I have a video we would be discussing about that later on. There are conditions where we just call a cording basically. Uh there, you know, you know, uh physical therapy can help relieve the tension and the blockage that is there. Then there are certain other diagnosis just by using, there are many uh physical tests that you can do. Um if you can come to the right condition, uh right proper diagnosis of yourself, like, you know, the orthopedics and the doctors do give you a main diagnosis. But then you have to come out where, where the exact limitation is and remove that limitation. And when you are able to do that, that's when we can restore the function. And as I, as I mentioned in my logo, the purpose of physical therapy is to heal, move properly and to live life completely. I love the way you phrase that when you talk about the releases because I could feel it when you were doing it when you were working on me. What is that? It's like a gift. It is, it takes a lot of uh manual therapy hours. I specialize in that. It's a specialized field of education. You have to take a few courses to know exactly. There are many techniques uh which you have to kind of, you know, hone your skills about. And uh then based upon how you come to the diagnosis that you able to do those releases in proper the pressure is the key where, how, how much that is the key and when you do that and you restore the function of that muscle and joint, the alignment and co ordination of the muscles with respect to each other. That's where we can restore the function completely. And coming up at noon, Himani talks about the holistic approach she uses in physical therapy.

We are putting the focus on tender healing, touch, physical therapy and Wellness LLC on Main Street in Edison, Himani Sethi is the owner, she is a highly skilled licensed physical therapist with over 29 years. Do you take the holistic approach? Yes, we treat the body as a whole. You cannot say, OK, I only have a problem and say the shoulder and nothing else is involved. The neck is involved with it, the back is involved with it. The, you know, uh see in this case, like there is a video playing um this one is uh oncology, you know, there is a uh a hair, there is a limitation in the hand. But along with that, everything else is involved in this video, the limitation is there in the back uh in the basically in the hamstring area. But uh the back is involved, the foot is involved, the whole leg is involved. We cannot say that only one part. See only my, my hip hurts, say and there is nothing else. The hip affects your knee, it affects your foot, it affects your back and eventually sometimes it goes all the way up to your neck, we don't even realize same way when the arm is involved. Like, you know, only the shoulder is involved. You cannot say that my arm would not be involved, my hand would not be involved, my neck would not be involved. Sometimes the nerves press there and you know, we had the nerves going all the way from our neck, all the way down to our hand, wherever the limitation is there, that is where we need to focus on. When we uh remove that limitation, the whole arm can function well up. Sometimes there is a limitation in the arm and we get the headache. And we say, why is my, why are we having the headache? You know, there's nothing wrong with me. There's nothing wrong with my neck but still just because of that nerve or even a muscle limitation, our neck can get involved and that can cause limitation, that can cause headache. So everything is connected and there is a path that helps everything work together efficiently. Exactly. So we cannot say that only one part is affected and the rest of the body is fine. No one part is affected, the whole body gets affected. It is not just our body, it's also what you eat. What is your lifestyle? What is your physical activity level? Everything, everything is included. So we have to see the body as a whole, not just one part of it. And that's why we say we take a holistic approach when we do our treatments tomorrow, Himani Shear is what it was like getting her business off the ground and what her practice offers.

We are talking with tender healing, touch, physical therapy and Wellness LLC on Main Street in Edison, Imani Sethi is the owner. We are joined by two other guests as well. Darshini Pari and her son Soh Sethi. Good to have you two joining us right now in this segment as well. Thank you so much. Thank you. Now, you started a year and a half ago. Tell me about that. I'm actually from a totally different field. Never was in a medical field, but uh I started working with Himani since almost a year now and it was a great learning experience and treating patients with real patients that was like learning for me as well and people going with too much of satisfaction when the pain was released. They were like so happy and thankful to both of us and I'm sure they had their good days and their cranky days. Yes. Oh, really? Cranky days. They didn't want to do certain exercises and that's what I'm telling. We had to really work with them with patients. I mean, they are cranky, they just don't want to do some of them just walk away. We have to slowly slowly make them understand and make them do the exercises and we stand in front of them, make them do the exercises and after two or three sessions they understand that. Oh, ok. This is working with me slowly. So that gives a real sense of satisfaction. I bet it does. You've been working with your mom since you were little. Yeah. Well, since I was little, every time we would go to, like, a clinic and I would, like, come to her clinic. Right. I'd be in her office making paper airplanes. But sometimes the very few occasions I would go out, I'd be talking to the patients that, uh, my mom works with. Uh, sometimes I just, like, tell them, like, you know, tell them about my day, ask them about their day. I learn experiences from them as well. And then at the same time I also learn how my mom works with the patients. And the, the really cool thing I admire about my mom is that she works with them with like diligence. Right. So, if she, like, a patient has a problem and they can't do a certain exercise, my mom will completely work through with them and has complete patience and I, I find, I admire that. I really do. I know I've seen it. I work with it. You have an exercise you wanna share with people. Yes, I do. Um, we, uh, these days we are all sitting down. We have a lot of this job. We don't get the opportunity to kind of um uh you know, be uh asthma. There is one quick stretch which also involves strengthening. If we can do that, that would relieve a lot of tension in our back, in our uh upper back, neck, shoulders, arms and our hips and our legs. It's a very quick stretch. I will need a wall for that. Ok. Can I go by behind this? So, all we need to do is we're gonna be head against the wall, back against the wall, shoulders against the wall, everything against the wall. Feet about a foot up forward, hands against the wall, elbows, touching the wall, hands, touching the wall, everything touching the wall. And we are going to lift our arms up slowly as far as we can against the wall. Wherever they start leaving the wall, we stop right there, hold till the count of 30 back.

Very actively play badminton. I'm also a hiker but I have hurt my left knee during one of my hikes. And I also because of the pinched nerve and the slipped disc that I had, uh doctors told me I needed to get surgery if the physical therapy does not work. Which is very scary because I'm very young and I didn't want to put myself through surgery. And just within a month of coming to Himani, the, you know, she has given me a go ahead to go back into my um you know, routine. I also dance. So I'm going back to my dancing. What a beautiful testimonial for tender healing, touch, physical therapy and Wellness LLC on Main Street in Edison. It is owned by Himani Sethi. Why was it so important for her to share that with our viewers today about you? Uh Let me tell you the story behind this testimonial. She came in and uh she said, Himani, I cannot believe I have been to so many. Um, actually, the full video is there on our website. If you, uh if anybody happens to see it's a two minute video, she made me record it, let's put it that way. She said, Imani, you won't believe I really want to thank you because she hasn't been to many physical therapists and she was not getting in. So, one of my friends, uh who is a mutual friend of both of ours, uh, she recommended her to come to me and try out. So she came to me very apprehensive because she had been to many physical therapists not getting anywhere. So she said, what is she going to gain by coming to me? So I said, you know, try three sessions and if it doesn't get any better, don't come to me. So, and you're very honest like that, which I appreciate it. Yes. Yes, I see. I get very jittery. If I don't see results within three sessions, it has to be a little bit even if it is a little bit fine, but it has to be if it is not that it gives me, um make me introspect and see if I'm doing everything right? Why is this person not getting any results? So when she came in, she asked me, um, what am I going to do for her? And she was like all bent over, couldn't straighten her back out and her neck was like completely jammed. She couldn't turn. She said I can barely drive, I'm scared. So I worked on her maybe like 20 minutes or so. She was like all tight all over. So I released her upper back neck and all and lo behold, she was walking straight. She couldn't believe she couldn't believe that that can happen. And uh and she had been suffering from a knee pain for a very long time also. So she said, can you fix that? I said, you try. So as such, I started working on her. Now she's hiking, dancing the other day. She danced for 7.5 minutes straight. And that to on Natu. Natu, if you know that song, it is a very active song. So she did it. No problems, no pain. And that's when she said Himani, I, you have to record me. I, I wanna give as my thanks to you for making me so good. And coming up at noon, Himani shares what it was like starting her own small business.

We are talking with the owner of tender healing, touch, physical therapy and Wellness LLC on Main Street in Edison. She is Hemani Sefi. What was it like getting this business off the ground? Well, it took me almost 30 years. Congratulations to get it off uh 28 years to be exact. I um I have experience you name it and I have done it kind of uh in literally every field except maybe the school system and burns. Uh but like, you know, vestibular rehab, lymphoedema, of course, manual therapy, orthopedic neurology, geriatric, everything, everything, even women's health. So tell us everything that your practice offers. We offer all of these and much more and we use as you can see different equipments which help in the mobility and restoring the function mainly. But the emphasis is on the manual techniques, which means not only that you would be exercising with all these equipments, we will be working on you, we will be working with you on you to restore the function and be able to get back to your function sooner better and in a capable way. So that's what it is. And the other thing about this is that it is all the external means. There is no invasive procedures involved in physical therapy. That's the best part. So you know, there is nothing that goes inside your body. It is all external. So you kind of he based on the external means only there are exercises involved. There are mental techniques involved. There are uh you know, those involved which help you to be able to move around back down. You work with a wide range of patients of all ages, all ages, newborn to 100 plus. Wow, that is quite a range. Yes. And all kinds of um uh all kinds of conditions, uh neurological sports injuries, orthopedic injuries, um orthopedic conditions, strains, sprains, nerve aches, um neurological conditions, stroke, Parkinson's, there are so many neurological conditions, uh concussions, um oncology. TMJ. We have patients for all of these right now. Um Also uh lymphoedema vestibular rehab, which meant not many people know they ha they suffer from dizziness, balance issues and all there is a whole branch speciality of physical therapy which deals with it, which is called as vestibular rehab. We specialize in that one also. So that is what is all? Ok.
