(09/12/06) CORAM - A speeding car flew through the air and crashed into the second floor of a Coram home Tuesday.
Police say the driver, identified only as a 44-year-old man, was dead when police arrived at the scene on Osborne Street. Witnesses say the car sped by at over 100 miles per hour before jumping the curb. The car then took flight and landed in the second story bathroom of Amrita Bijoor?s house. Bijoor was asleep in her bedroom when, she says, she felt the house shake like an earthquake.
Joe Gandolfo, a resident of Osborne Street who witnessed the speeding car, says that just two hours earlier the street was buzzing with children at the bus stop and professionals heading to work. Gandolfo also says that the driver did not appear to hit the brakes at all.
