Police have arrested a woman in connection with several incidents in which jewelry was stolen from the homes of people who had hired a home tutor for their special needs children.
According to officials, beginning on Jan. 3, 2014, police received several reports of stolen jewelry in the Hauppauge area.
Detectives conducted an investigation into the thefts, and on Feb. 11 they arrested Bonni Blier, of Ronkonkoma. She is being accused of stealing a ring and pawning it for $8,500 in addition to an entire jewelry box from another family. One family said Blier stole six pairs of earrings over time, which amounted to $3,600.
Blier has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of stolen property, one count of criminal possession of stolen property and one count of petit larceny.
Blier, 36, is a special education tutor who was providing in-home tutoring for children in the victims' homes where the jewelry was stolen.
Blier was arraigned this morning and her bail was set at $40,000 cash or $80,000 bond.
