The Suffolk SPCA says a Mastic man is facing a charge of animal cruelty because his dog had a neck injury allegedly caused by an embedded collar.
The 4-year-old female pit bull was treated at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Hospital in Bohemia for a chronic infected neck wound. The SPCA says the wound was caused by an embedded collar that resulted in damage to the dog's jugular vein.
The SPCA says 38-year-old Jaron Miller surrendered the dog and is now facing a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.
Anyone interested in adopting the dog, named Bella, is urged to contact Kent Animal Shelter at 631-727-5731.
