SPCA officials say a man was caught on camera throwing a dog into a dumpster in West Islip Monday afternoon.

A surveillance camera at USA gas station off Montauk Highway caught a man taking a plastic garbage bag from his truck and casually dropping it into the dumpster. The man was seen driving a black SUV.

Investigators from the Suffolk SPCA say they believe that a female Lhaso Ahpso was left for dead in that plastic bag.

Kevin Zabowski, of West Islip, says he discovered the pup while making his daily rounds collecting cans and bottles from area businesses. He says the dog was barely alive and looked to have been severely neglected.

The SPCA has just offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

The dog, believed to be 2-3 years old, is recovering at a local shelter. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Suffolk SPCA at 631-382-7722.
