The smell of freshly roasted coffee is back in the air at Southdown Coffee in Glen Cove after a fire forced the popular shop to close for a week

The fire started in a roasting machine, according to owner Mark Boccard, and electricity to the building had to be shut off as crews worked to address the damage.

Southdown Coffee reopened its doors at 7 a.m. Wednesday, bringing employees and customers back inside the shop.

“Every day counts. The faster we get back open, the faster we can get back to business,” Boccard said. “We have 30 people that work here, between the coffee shop and wine bar. People have bills to pay, and it is good to be back up.”

The Other Side Wine Bar, which is connected to the coffee shop, is expected to reopen Friday or Saturday.
