Police: 1 dead in wrong-way crash on Wantagh State Parkway

Police have identified the driver as Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsville, PA.

New York State Police say one person died in a wrong-way crash on the Wantagh State Parkway early this morning.
According to police, a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes struck another vehicle head-on around 5:15 a.m.
Police have identified the driver as Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsville, PA. Simek succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police say the vehicle Simek struck was driven by Jay Lasker, 54, of North Bellmore. Lasker was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The crash previously closed all southbound lanes of the Wantagh State Parkway from Exit W4 to Exit W5. The Wantagh State Parkway has been reopened as of 9:15 a.m.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and State Police are asking for anyone with information to call (631) 756-3300.
