A Southampton councilman has introduced a bill that would regulate Uber the same way taxis are regulated by the town.
The popular online taxi dispatch company does not currently face the same fees as cab companies, which pay thousands each year in registrations and licensing.
Councilman Stan Glinka says he's not trying to drive away Uber's business.
"I'm all about proposing and bringing business into the Town of Southampton," said Glinka.
An Uber driver says the restrictions may affect service.
"With this type of car, an expensive car, we cannot do [provide service] for a cheap price," says Boris Guambana
Last summer, Uber service was suspended in East Hampton and Montauk after 23 drivers were cited for operating without a proper license.
