A South Setauket man set out on the journey of a lifetime where he is walking from Manhattan to Orient Point raise awareness and money for diabetes research.
Michael Ehrlich, who says he's going on the journey for his daughter Rachel, is walking 107 miles from the city to the East End of Long Island.
He says he's not stopping or sleeping. The walk began Friday to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Rachel, 16, has type 1 diabetes, and Ehrlich says he told her he'd do what he can to help.
Ehrlich was on 25A in Mount Sinai Sunday, which is about the halfway point. He's currently on hour 28 of his walk, and says he hasn't slept a wink.
Ehrlich says he's had friends walk portions of the journey with him, and got a special escort through Stony Brook by the village's fire department.
In the past four weeks, he's raised more than $30,000 for diabetes research from nearly 300 donors.
He says the community donated a lot of money, including the group Three Village Dads.
Ehrlich expects to get to Orient Point by Monday afternoon, walking a total of about 50 hours.
