South Country parents raise concerns after two school incidents in first week
Parents say they are worried about student safety after two incidents at Bellport High School prompted police responses and a hold-in-place order during the first week of school.

Parents and students in South Country schools are expressing growing concern about the school year ahead following two incidents during the first week of classes.
According to school officials, police were called for both incidents.
On Friday, classes were placed on hold-in-place status while the situation was addressed.
Some parents say they are worried about what could happen next and believe school budget cuts and staffing shortages may be contributing factors.
“It is concerning what is going to happen to the children, and children should not have to go to school in fear," said one parent. "When I drop my kids off at school, I have a pit in my stomach… No parent, no taxpayer should feel that way.”
The interim superintendent sent a message to the community Friday addressing the incidents.
In the message, the superintendent said the incidents were the “result of students making bad decisions.” The superintendent also said that all protocols were followed and that those involved would be dealt with appropriately.
