Nassau police say that a body was discovered in the back of an SUV that was on fire earlier Friday.
The SUV was located in the backyard of a home on Seaman Avenue in Freeport.
Police say the body was discovered in the back seat of the SUV after the fire was extinguished.
Chopper 12 was overhead where a charred out white SUV could be seen.
Neighbors tell News 12 that the vehicle exploded and that they heard six or seven gunshots.
Mike Acosta lives a few houses away and says right around the same time of the fire he heard "these gunshot sounds."
"I closed the windows, locked the door and then went to call my mom to tell her about what I heard because I was scared because I had my baby brother in there too," says Acosta.
Police have not released the name of the victim yet but neighbors tell News 12 it is a 64-year-old man.
