Police: Teen hospitalized with laceration following assault in Elmont

Hempstead Turnpike was shut down westbound in the area for several hours.

A 14-year-old boy sustained a laceration to his right ear during an assault in Elmont Friday afternoon, police say.
Detectives say it happened at 1434 Hempstead Tpke. at around 1:10 p.m. when approximately four unknown juvenile suspects, all wearing masks, approached the victim and began to assault him.
The suspects fled the scene westbound on Hempstead Turnpike, and the victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
News 12 received cellphone video that captured the fight from a parent in the community.
While police investigated the incident, Hempstead Turnpike was temporarily shut down westbound in the area for several hours.
The Sewanhaka Central School District was informed by the Nassau County Police Department of police activity in the area. The district sent an email to parents saying they moved all sports and activities inside the building as a precaution. All games after school were also canceled.
