Two Long Island Railroad trains narrowly avoided a collision in Bridgehampton back in August, News 12 Long Island has learned.
According to a confidential source, internal LIRR memos indicate two trains came within 700-feet of each other on Aug. 3.
The memos allegedly state a westbound train was supposed to pull over on a short side track at Bridgehampton so an eastbound train could pass. The westbound train did not pull over in time and stopped on the main track past the Bridgehampton station. The other train's conductor slammed on the brakes and managed to stop just in time. Nobody on board was injured.
