The soupy, hazy and humid conditions across Long Island continued Friday and are expected to last through the weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Nassau and Suffolk counties effective through Sunday at 10 p.m.
News 12 Long Island was at Jones Beach, where people were hoping to escape the hot conditions near the shore.
Doctors say being proactive is important during excessive heat, especially when it comes to children and the elderly.
"It's very important to stay hydrated, stay in the shade and wear light clothing," says Dr. Adhi Sharma, of South Nassau Communities Hospital.
Temperatures on Saturday are expected to reach 90 degrees, with feels-like temperatures of 100 to 110.
Some state parks have extended hours to accommodate people looking to beat the heat at the shore this weekend. Jones Beach, Robert Moses, Hither Hills and Sunken Meadow will be open until 8 p.m. through Sunday, as will the pool at Jones Beach.
