It was full circle moment for a Long Island family as the son of a fallen 9/11 responder graduated from the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit Friday.
Joseph Vigianno Jr. is no stranger to how challenging the tasks can be after losing his father and uncle who were both responding to 9/11 almost 21 years ago.
His father, Detective Joseph Vigianno, died while trying to rescue victims trapped inside the towers. His uncle, John Vigianno Jr. was a firefighter who also died responding to the towers.
On Friday, Joseph Jr. was assigned to his father's old truck, Truck 7. While he and his family are from Long Island, he’ll be serving Brooklyn North. The move comes after Joseph Jr. served at the 75th Precinct.
Joseph Jr. was awarded best overall student in his graduating class.
