Testimony continued on Wednesday in the murder trial of Paul Caneiro, a man accused of killing his brother, Keith Caneiro and Keith's family at their Colts Neck home in 2018.

A neighbor of Keith Caneiro says when he heard what he said were gunshots, he thought he was listening to a mob hit.

“I woke up. I heard the shots, and I said, ‘Someone just got whacked,’” said Dennis Corpora.

Corpora says he knew what he heard was not normal. He testified he heard the shots around “3:20-something” that morning.

“Did it sound like a rifle or a shotgun?” Corpora was asked during questioning.

“Absolutely not. It was a pistol,” he told the jury.

Jurors also heard from Lazaro Cardenas, a trust account expert. Cardenas told jurors that Keith Caneiro's trust account would only benefit Paul Caneiro if his brother, sister-in-law and their children were all dead.

Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Detective Brian Weisbrot was next to take the stand. He examined a key piece of evidence on the DVR home security system taken from Paul Caneiro’s home. On it, Paul Caneiro can be seen on the screen, before it suddenly shuts off.

“The DVR system was turned off,” said Weisbrot.

More video from Paul Caneiro's neighbors shows what prosecutors say is a vehicle leaving his house just after 2 a.m., and returning roughly two hours later. The same neighbor’s video then captured the beginnings of fire breaking out at Paul Caneiro’s Ocean Township home.

Testimony is expected to resume Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
